The earlier you begin saving for your child’s college education, the better. If your child is an infant or teenager, the following steps will help you get started.

Set Goals
To begin an effective savings plan, answer the following questions.

Do I plan to fund postgraduate study for my child?  
Do I expect my child to help pay for college costs?

How many years do I have to save before my child attends college?  
Can I jump-start college savings with a large start-up sum?
If so, how much?
 
How much can I afford to set aside each month?  
Will I need college funds for more than one child?
